The game is slated to be released on 3 February 2023, so not much time is left considering the initial announcement of the game that was made back in 2014. In 2012, Deep Silver, the publishing company, tasked Techland with the development of the game, but Techland decided to work on another survival horror video game named Dying Light.
Later, Yager Development got the deal to develop Dead Island 2, they established a sub-studio Yager Productions GmbH specifically for the development of the game. After 3 years of development, Deep Silver cut ties with Yager and the project was re-assigned to Sumo Digital. Later after losing the developing rights, Yager Productions GmbH filed for insolvency.
Sumo Digital worked on the project until the start of 2019. In August 2019 another announcement was made which stated that the development of the game has been handed to Dambuster Studios (the internal studio of Deep Silver). Finally, Dambuster Studios completed the development of the game.
Dead Island 2 Gameplay & Plot
The game takes place in the city of Los Angeles or LA (dubbed in the game as HELL-A), the city of San Francisco, along with a third unknown location in California, which has been severely affected by a Zombie Outbreak. The events of this game occur some months later after the events of Dead Island (the first game in the Dead Island franchise). Some old features of the game like rage and crafting will also appear in Dead Island 2.
The game will include a large arsenal of melee as well as ranged weapons for you to make your way through the large hordes of killer zombies. You can slice, smash, burn and rip off the zombies.
In the game, you are also infected by the Zombie Virus but you have some kind of immunity to it and have successfully been able to maintain your senses.
You will be able to choose one of the six playable characters in the game known as Slayers. The Slayers are completely customizable and you will easily be able to tailor them to your liking. The game features a co-operative (co-op) multiplayer feature for up to 3 players which makes the game more interactive.

Amazon Alexa Voice Control
The game will feature a unique feature of Amazon Alexa voice control. Using this feature, players will be able to switch between different weapons and even interact with NPCs (Non-Playable Characters), for example, you could taunt zombies in the game by saying “Hey Zombie. You’re good for nothing” or “Aye Zombie. Is that all you got ?”.
Another great news is that you can access this feature using any microphone or headset and you do not require the Amazon Echo device separately also you will not be required to say “Alexa” before making any commands.
Moreover, Dead Island 2 will be the first game to have this amazing in-game feature. This new feature guarantees the game to be much more fun and enjoyable. To know more about the Alexa Game Control feature click here.

The game is categorized under the Mature category, which means you should ideally be 17+ years of age to play the game.
