The story setting of Alan Wake 2 picks up from where the first game ended, with Alan Wake banishing himself with an evil dark presence to another dark realm known as the Dark Place.

Now, 13 years after the famous writer went missing at the end of the original game, mysterious ritualized murders have begun happening in Bright Falls once again.

FBI agent Saga Anderson is sent in to investigate, unknown to the fact that she will soon be stuck in the middle of a horror story herself, a story written by none other than the troubled writer himself to escape his decade-long captivity.

Alan Wake 2 Gameplay Features

In terms of gameplay, Alan Wake 2 follows its predecessor by being a similar third-person, action-adventure game, but this time around, as mentioned by Remedy Entertainment themselves, the psychological horror elements, which were previously a tiny part of the story and were sprinkled sparingly throughout its gameplay, have now taken center stage and have a more prominent effect on the theme of the game.

Gameplay features returning from the original title like the regularly used flashlight, which can again be ‘focused’ on enemies to deal more damage, a wide variety of weapons to choose from to adapt to your playstyle and manuscripts, which players will have to once again search for in the environment around them to unlock more abilities and gameplay lore.

Unlike the original game, apart from controlling the central character Alan Wake, players will now also play as a secondary character in the form of FBI agent Saga Anderson.

When playing as Saga, players can access specific unique systems only available to them, like pausing the game anywhere to enter a place called ‘Mind Space,’ where players can get a visual representation of their thoughts.

Additionally, the ‘Mind Space’ will not only act as a ‘safe haven’ for Saga to take a breath from all the action and connect the dots to help her solve the mystery, but it will also help her in profiling the details of the characters she will discover during the game, to find various clues to assist with her investigation.

Furthermore, players will be able to experience the game in 3 difficulty settings: Story mode, Normal mode, and Hard mode.

Here, take a look at the official tweet from Alan Wake 2’s official Twitter account to know more about these settings in more detail:

For players who haven’t played the first part, there is no need not worry, as according to Alan Wake’s Official Website’s FAQs, the game is indeed a sequel to the 2010 game, but it is set up as a standalone experience, to enable new players to enjoy the thrills of the game without having any prior knowledge of the first game.
