No matter how many intriguing games might be released, the thought of a new Star Wars game always excites fans to the core. Ever since EA’s long-standing Star Wars exclusivity rights have lapsed, several well-reputed publishers and developers have jumped into the fray to try their hand at developing the next best Star Wars game.

So, in this post, we will look at the numerous upcoming Star Wars games announced so far to get fans of this series excited for the future.

So without much ado, let’s get right to it:

1) Star Wars: Hunters

Developer(s)Zynga, Lucasfilm Games
Release DateTBC 2023
Platform(s)Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS

Star Wars: Hunters is a third-person, free-to-play, action-adventure game set on the planet of Vespara, where players will engage in high-octane battles and skirmishes across a wide selection of iconic locations from the Star Wars universe.

Since this is a squad-based shooter, players can choose to select characters with specific abilities and traits that best complement the team’s overall composition. Of the available characters, players can choose to use Rodian Sawbones, a Wookie Juggernaught, an Imperial Heavy Gunner, a Rebel War Hero, a Dark Side Assassin, and many more.

The game takes place after the fall of the Galactic Empire and is set somewhere between the events of Episodes VI and VII of the franchise.

2) Star Wars FPS by Respawn Entertainment

Developer(s)Respawn Entertainment, Electronic Arts
Release DateTBC
Platform(s)TBC

A new Star Wars first-person shooter game is reportedly in development. Still, fans who are eagerly waiting for the release of this game will be left disappointed to know that the actual release date of this game is unknown as of yet, and the chances of it being announced anytime soon is highly unlikely at the moment.

The game is reportedly being developed by Peter Hirschmann, who was previously involved in the development of other Star Wars games like Star War Battlefront II (2005), Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (2008), a few LEGO Star War games, and even a Medal of Honor game too.

Respawn Entertainment, too, is no stranger to developing impressive FPS games, as they have previously demonstrated with the development of Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends, so it is fair to say that they have enough experience and expertise in their locker to come up with yet another gem of a game.

The game will reportedly take inspiration from older Star Wars cult classics like the Dark Forces series since gamers even today are indulging in it to experience the no-nonsense action mechanics. Moreover, there are rumors that this game will have a dedicated multiplayer mode, but nothing has been confirmed.

3) Star Wars Strategy Game by Respawn Entertainment

Developer(s)Bit Reactor
Release DateTBC
Platform(s)TBC

Along with announcing an upcoming FPS game, Respawn Entertainment and a newly formed independent game development studio named Bit Reactor are working on a brand new strategy game set in the Star Wars universe.

Bit Reactor is currently being led by a strategy games veteran Greg Foertsch, who is well-known for working on popular strategy games like Sid Meier’s Civilizations games and X-COM gams by Firaxis games. With Greg at the helm, it is safe to speculate that this upcoming Star Wars strategy game will be more of a turn-based focused game like the X-COM games rather than being a traditional RTS game like Age of Empires.

The announcement of this game seems more of a marketing and recruitment call as of yet as the game is very early in its development cycle, so fans hoping for an imminent reveal will be left disappointed as the game is a few good years away from an official release date announcement.

4) Star Wars Outlaws

Release Date2024
Platform(s)PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox Series X and S

Star Wars Outlaws is a third-person, story-driven, single-player, action-adventure game, and is set between the period of ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘Return of the Jedi’ movies.

In this game, players will take control of an intergalactic outlaw named Kay Vess, who, along with her trusted companion, Nix, try to attempt one of the biggest heists the Galaxy has ever seen.

Since it is an open-world game, players will be able to take part in many activities and travel to various planets in the galaxy, like Tatooine and Akiva.

The game will also feature a branching dialogue option like other popular story-driven games to give each dialogue spoken in the game more meaning and depth.

Moreover, combat will also play a big role in this game as players will be able to engage in stealth-based combat combat scenarios, vehicular combat, spaceship combat, and more.

Developer(s)Aspyr, Lucasfilm Games
Release DateTBC
Platform(s)PlayStation 5, PC

Star Wars Knights of The Old Republic Remake aims to bring the all-time classic action RPG game from 2003 to modern consoles and PCs. The game was unveiled to the public during the PlayStation Showcase event held in 2021 and is reportedly being remade by Aspyr and Lucasfilm Games.

Aspyr has already been involved with remastering other Star Wars games like The Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, so their expertise in remaking games will also be quite invaluable in this regard.

In the previous iteration of the game by Bioware, players could choose to play the game exactly how they wanted, customizing their characters to their liking as well, giving players a unique and personalized gaming experience, hence fans of this game are eagerly waiting in anticipation to see what the new game has in store, and whether it will provide players with the same level of freedom or not.

At the time of writing this post, there isn’t any official news regarding the release date of this game, with some reports even stating that the game has been indefinitely postponed, but only time will tell whether that is indeed the case or not.

6) Star Wars: Eclipse

Developer(s)Quantic Dream, Lucasfilm Gams
Release DateTBC
Platform(s)TBC

Star Wars Eclipse is an action-adventure Star Wars game that is set during the High Republic era and takes place in a region in the Star Wars Galaxy that has not been explored in any game before.

This game utilizes multiple-character narrative-driven game mechanics, enabling players to control several characters in-game, each with their unique backstories, skills and abilities, strengths and weaknesses.

The game is still early in development, so fans are still unsure of what to make of it at the moment, but by just looking at the unique trailer the developers shared during The Game Awards live showcase in 2021, it is quite apparent that the game has a distinctly dark and mysterious backdrop to it.

This dark backdrop is a stark contrast to the normally vibrant and colorful setting of the previous iteration of Star Wars games and movies alike, but it also goes to show the Quantic Dream and Lucasfilm Games are not afraid to try something different and go for a never-tried-before formula for this game, and all we say right now is that we are eager to know more about it.

8) Star Wars Game by Amy Hennig & Skydance New Media

Developer(s)Skydance New Media
Release DateTBC
Platform(s)TBC

Lucasfilm Games and Skydance New Media are developing a new Star Wars game that is being led by reputed video game director and scriptwriter Amy Hennig, who is well-known for her contributions to the legendary Uncharted game series.

When writing this post, this game is still without an official title, which is quite understandable, as it looks like it is still being conceptualized.

Rumors were floating around the web not too long back stating that this game could be a revival of the once-canceled Star Wars game being developed by Amy Hennig during her time at Visceral Games, codenamed Project Ragtag, which is set during the Rebel Alliance era of the Star Wars universe.

As far as the theme of the game is concerned, it doesn’t sound too dissimilar from Project Ragtag, and sounds like it could be an exciting entry into the Star Wars game series, but only time will tell whether that is the case or not.

Conclusion

When writing this article, these were the upcoming Star Wars games looking to be released shortly, which fans can look forward to indulging in to get the best Star Wars sci-fi gameplay experience.

Most of the games on this list have just been announced and are most probably in their pre-developmental phases, so it is safe to assume that their eventual fixed release dates are still some ways off.

Please do keep coming back to this post occasionally to be updated on anything and everything related to these Star Wars games, and we’ll surely keep updating this post with all the latest news and official updates as and when they become available to us.
