State of Decay 3 will be the third installment of American video game developer Undead Lab’s State of Decay franchise. Although, not much information about the development of the game has been released, here are all the details that we know about the State of Decay 3 release date, trailer, system requirements, rumors, and more.

State of Decay games are among some of the top zombie shooter games that fall under the action-adventure and survival-horror genre. There have been 2 games of the franchise that have already been released, both of which were successful.

Both the previous titles of The State of Decay had elements of survival horror, action-adventure, civilization rebuilding, stealth, and hardcore zombie action.

Microsoft acquired Undead Labs in 2018 and State of Decay 3 was announced in June 2020 at Xbox Games Showcase along with some other announcements and a reveal trailer.

The game is still in its pre-production stage and it will be a while before we get to hear something substantial about the game’s ongoing development process directly from the developer’s side.

There have even been reports that suggest that the developers were forced to release the announcement trailer of the game at the Xbox Games showcase in 2020, even when the game itself was not in a state where it could be announced or showcased to the public during the games showcase of 2020, since at that time, it was barely beyond the conceptualization phase, and it was too early to even talk about it.

Additionally, Kotaku did an in-depth investigation of the internal issues at Undead Labs and concluded that things were not going too well after its acquisition by Microsoft in 2018.

To elaborate on the issue mentioned above, employees at Undead Labs have shared their experiences, stating that the pre-production phase of the game has been extremely messy and that there was a lot of mismanagement.

Some current and former employees have also gone as far as reporting that employees are suffering from total burnout. To make matters worse, there have also been alarming allegations related to misogyny within Undead Lab’s development team as well.

After hearing all the disturbing news coming out of Undead Labs, it comes as no surprise that there was no mention of the game during the recently held Xbox showcase in 2022, which suggests that gamers worldwide will have to wait for a considerably longer time than initially anticipated before they get any information about the development process, and eventually a concrete release date, of the much-anticipated, and appreciated zombie-survival, colony-management title.

Since we do not have any official news to rely on, we, at Benettonplay, speculate that the game will not be seeing the time of day sooner than 2027 at the earliest, largely due to the mishaps occurring at Undead Labs.

Gamers have already waited for a long time after seeing the announcement trailer and we hope that the developers of this game will release the game as soon as possible. Be sure to stay in the loop by revisiting this article from time to time, as we will update you guys as soon as we get our hands on any new piece of information about the game’s release date and more.

State of Decay 3 Trailer

Before we go any further, take a look at the only announcement trailer for State of Decay 3 so far:

The Trailer for State of Decay 3 is out and we can see a girl at the beginning of the trailer sitting by a campfire all alone in the middle of a jungle, covered in snow. She can be seen sharpening her crossbow’s arrows, and some empty food cans can also be seen lying around.

A creature, probably a wolf, with only its eyes shining bright approaches her, which she scares away by screaming at it. By the look on her face, she seems frustrated and tired of all the fighting and surviving in this unforgiving world.

The scene then shifts to the morning hours, the girl looks over the wide snow-covered forest area while standing on the edge of a mountain. It can be observed from her facial expressions that she’s stressed out but is also on the lookout for more surviving humans, shelter, and more resources.

She moves on through the snow-capped forest, carrying her crossbow. While exploring the wild, however, she notices some blood spots in the snow and consequently follows them. To her utter surprise, instead of seeing a wolf feasting on a deer, she finds out that a wolf’s corpse is being devoured by a hungry, zombified deer.

There is no doubt that the trailer is chilling and has all the suspense, adventure, horror, and survival elements in it that a trailer belonging to a survival game like State of Decay 3 must have.

Furthermore, the reveal trailer has received mostly positive reviews from fans worldwide since it was showcased, and it worked exceptionally well in hyping up the game series by putting it firmly in the category of one of the ‘most highly-anticipated games’ yet to be released.

State of Decay 3 Platforms

Coming to the platforms the game might be released on, although no official news has been provided by the developers of the game as of yet, State of Decay 3, just like its predecessors, will look to be available for Xbox Series X and Series S and Windows since previous games in the series released on these very platforms too. The possibilities of the game supporting wide cross-play are slim and it is almost a certainty that this game is going to be an Xbox exclusive title.

Unfortunately, for PlayStation user, we believe that the game will not be released on the PlayStation platform as the game will be an Xbox exclusive title and Microsoft wouldn’t want to risk handing one of their flagship game series to one of their major competing platforms.

This was it for the platforms now let us dive deep into the system requirements for the game.

State of Decay 3 System Requirements

Given that the game is still in its pre-development and there have not been many words from the devs about it, State of Decay 3 system requirements have also not been released but given the timeline in which the game could be released, we can speculate what could be the minimum and recommended system requirements for the Undead Lab’s next title.

State of Decay 3 Gameplay and Storyline

Since we got a minute-and-a-half-long announcement trailer, which is entirely CGI, we don’t know much about what could be the game’s mechanics. In the trailer, we see the girl exploring the open world in cold weather, so we might get to see warmth and shelter mechanics in the game.

Although these are just speculations since as per reports, we know that the developers released the announcement trailer earlier and we won’t be surprised if certain changes that don’t seem to relate to the trailer are introduced in the game.

Scavenging for weapons and tools, food and other stuff for survival will once again be the core feature that will most definitely be part of the game, as it was in the other games in the series as well. Moreover, as per the trailer, we see just one girl and she has no other companion alongside her at that moment, so the theme of the game could be along the ‘search and find companions’ line, instead of already having a bunch to look after in the previous games.

Exploration will also be an integral part of the game as survival games at their core are all about scavenging for essential resources and this game will be no different, all while trying to kill and avoid various types of enemies, including zombified deers.

There are tons of news about the State of Decay floating across the internet and we will discuss a few of them here today.

Since its announcement in 2020, the game is still apparently stuck in its pre-production stage. Moreover, During the start of the year 2022, Undead Labs faced allegations of burnout, mismanagement, and misogyny. As mentioned earlier, Kotaku did an in-depth investigation on the matter and interviewed 12 of the former and current developers working on State of Decay 3, and they had some pretty disturbing and unfortunate beans to spill.

Some of the employees said that the time after the acquisition had not been good and that the work culture and environment had changed significantly before the studio’s acquisition. According to Matt Booty, head of Xbox games studios, over the previous years, Undead Labs has undergone some positive changes, and they are quite confident in the way the development team is handling it.

One of the developers said that the women in the team were not treated equally and that even during the meetings, women’s expertise would be ignored, they would be talked over, their ideas would be rejected and even sexist remarks were made against them. Following this, a meeting etiquette guideline was rolled out to calm the situation down, but unfortunately, that didn’t help much in resolving the situation.

Anne Schlosser, an experienced HR professional, was hired as the first head of people and culture to help make things better at the studio. But, according to some of the developers, she absolutely didn’t help in developing and improving the working environment and addressing the discrimination but rather made things worse by teaming up with those causing trouble.

Schlosser denied all of these allegations against her though and stated that as a woman she wouldn’t tolerate any kind of misogynistic behavior. Philip Holt, the official studio head of Undead Labs, allegedly pressured the development team to show the game this early in its development stage, one developer said that they did not want to show this game this early since they did not know what it was in 2020.

Eventually, Microsoft stepped in and after interviewing some of the employees at the Labs, Schlosser left Undead Labs in September 2021. According to present employees, in the previous six months, conditions at Undead Labs have been better than they have been for some time and the work culture has become quite accommodating.
