When we talk about open-world, action-adventure games, the Far Cry games come at the top of the list. There is absolutely no doubt that this game series is one of the best, if not the best First-Person-Shooter, open-world video game franchises in the world, hence it comes as no surprise that gamers around the globe are eagerly anticipating the release of the next game in the series.

This franchise transcended first-person-shooter titles into prominence and had everyone talking about them. Each installment in the Far Cry franchise tries to be better than its predecessor in terms of story, gameplay, or graphics, and although the latest entries in the series have indeed received their fair share of criticism, it must be acknowledged that very few gaming franchises match the level of quality the Far Cry games provide.

So today we will spill some beans about Far Cry 7’s release date, gameplay features, trailer, news & more (2023). Although Ubisoft has not made any official announcement about Far Cry 7 yet, that does not deter us in any way from trying to speculate a little on it with the help of various leaks and rumors floating around the web.

So without any further ado let’s get started.

Far Cry 7 Release Date

According to a Leaker on Twitter, Far Cry 7, or Project Blackbird as it is internally known, is not currently in development by Ubisoft. Although this piece of information may leave dedicated fans of this series massively disappointed, keep in mind that this information is coming from a leaker and is not confirmed by the developers themselves, so please take it with a pinch of salt.

Moreover, given that Far Cry 6 was only recently released, it is safe to assume that at this moment in time, only the initial phases of Far Cry 7’s production must have been put into place. As far as giving a confirmed date, we do not have one right now, but it is fair to speculate that Far Cry 7 is not going to be releasing anytime soon. Tentatively, we should see it being released somewhere around Fall 2025 at the earliest, that is if there are no unwanted delays and postponements.

We believe that Ubisoft is focusing on the development and marketing of some of their other IPs for now like Assassin’s Creed, The Division, and a new and ambitious one in Avatar, as they had been continuously involved in the promotion of their Far Cry titles in the past.

Although not confirmed, it is widely speculated that Ubisoft will most probably start off the development process for a new Far Cry title soon, but only after the release of their other project, Avatar: Frontiers on Pandora.

Additionally, Ubisoft also stated that it plans to create extra free games on the side as well based on its most popular game franchises, so will have to wait and watch if any Far Cry free games are available to play or not, but we’ll elaborate more on that sometime later.

Far Cry 7 Gameplay Features and Story

As we speculated earlier, there will be a considerable development time gap between Far Cry 6 & 7’s release dates, largely due to the fact that they are firstly busy marketing their other games and secondly, they are also overseeing a change in the game’s engine by moving away from the heavily utilized Dunia Engine that debuted all the way back in Far Cry 2, to a more flexible engine in the form of the snowdrop engine, that was initially introduced in the first Tom Clancy’s The Division game in 2013, and gamers will also see it being utilized in the upcoming Avatar game as well.

After reading about all the intricacies involved in the game’s development and promotion, we can safely assume that since Ubisoft is taking its time in developing a new Far Cry game, it is almost a certainty at this point that the gameplay of Far Cry 7 will be quite different than the previous few entries in the series since various rumors suggest that it will be non-linear gameplay-wise, and more flexible in terms of its in-game gameplay capabilities, thanks to the new high-tech engine backing it up in the form of the Snowdrop engine.

The gameplay in the recent Far Cry 6 was not bad at all, in fact, it was pretty impressive, but die-hard fans of the series could not help but notice the monotony that had crept in, in regards to its overall gameplay, world design, combat, etc. The migration to a new engine will certainly help the developers add various cool features to an already impressive game, to wow all their fans to the core.

As much as gamers want new and engaging features added to the game, they hope that Ubisoft keeps the core gameplay elements in place and only improves upon them in key areas so that players will still get to experience the true ‘Far Cry’ feel from it.

Coming to the game’s storyline, not much has been revealed to the public officially, but a few trusted leaks have given us a good insight into what we can expect from the game.

Far Cry 7 will presumably be called Far Cry: Rise, and will take place on a fictitious representation of a tropical island called Kimsan. Players will take on the role of a member belonging to a wealthy family whose family members have been taken hostage by a militia/rebel faction called the ‘Sons of Truth’.

The game will take place in a 72-hour time frame in which players must try to rescue their family members in any order they wish and destroy the militia faction as well. If players are unable to rescue a certain member in the allotted time, that character will die permanently and will have an effect on how the overall core story of the game will play out.

To enable players to get the required information out of the bad guys, Far Cry 7 will presumably allow players to take advantage of a newly integrated in-game interrogation mechanic. Players are not assured of getting the piece of information they are searching for by using this gameplay mechanic as enemies in this game will sometimes give up the information quietly, on other occasions they will lie to the player, stay completely silent, or even try to escape altogether.

The main objective of the game is for players to kill the ‘Sons of Truth’ and moreover, to get a game completion score of 100%, players will have to try and rescue each and every family and get them back safely. As straightforward as it sounds, we can surely expect many twists and turns in the game’s plot as we progress through it.

It must be pointed out that this rumored story setting has been denied by many people since its initial leak, but the fact that it keeps popping up from time to time in articles of other top sites also, makes us believe that there is indeed some truth in it.

Only time will tell if this is indeed Far Cry 7’s actual storyline, so we would like to request our readers to please take this rumored story as just another rumor until the developers of the game confirm it themselves.
